Festivals and fairs:
— Don’t miss the South Mountain Fair, located 10 miles northwest of Gettysburg on Route 234 in Arendtsville. This agricultural country fair runs today through Saturday with rides, entertainment, games, food, livestock shows and more. [Admission is $6]
— The Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival kicks off today and runs through Sunday at the Granite Hill Camping Resort, 3340 Fairfield Road, outside Gettysburg. Grammy Award-winning Del McCoury Band will take the stage as well as Steep Canyon Rangers, Blue Highway and Rhonda Vincent & The Rage. Check out live coverage. [Daily tickets range from $35 to $45 at the gate]
— Don’t miss an old-fashioned fun fair Friday, Saturday and Sunday during Olde Tyme Days at Canal and Mill Creek Roads, Conewago Township. Activities include a petting zoo, tractor pulls, hayrides, food and kids’ games. [$2, free for children 10 and younger]
Bring these tips to the The Silopanna Music Festival Saturday at Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds in Crownsville, Md. — about an hour south of York. The Flaming Lips, Dashboard Confessional, Matt & Kim and Jimmie’s Chicken Shack are on the bill. The music starts at 11 p.m. Food trucks and food and beverage vendors will be set up during the event. [General admission is $69.50; parking is $10]
— Check out the Hot August Music Festival, which starts 11 a.m. Saturday, at Oregon Ridge Park, 13401 Beaver Dam Road, Cockeysville, Md. It will feature three stages of music and workshops. Old Crow Medicine Show, Nickel Creek, Dr. Dog and other groups will perform. [General admission is $59; children 12 and younger can enter for free; parking is $15]

On stage:
— Enjoy the Summer Series with live music on the deck Friday night at Roundtop Mountain Resort, 925 Roundtop Road, Warrington Township. Copper Sky will perform and there will be food specials. The bar will be open until 9 p.m. [Adventure Package wrist bands will be available for $20]
— It’s the last weekend to see “The Rememberer.” It hits the stage 6:30 p.m. Friday, 2:30 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Dreamwrights Youth and Family Theatre, 100 Carlisle Ave., York. The true story follows an Indian girl who must preserve the honor and memories of her own people. [$8 and $12]
— Bring your gal pals to “Girls Night The Musical” 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday in the Sunoco Performance Theater at the The Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts, 222 Market St., Harrisburg. [$27.50 or $37.50]
The Novel Ideas will perform 8 p.m. Sunday at Tellus360, 24 E. King St., Lancaster. Brooklyn-based indie-pop band Frances Cone is also on the bill. [Free]
— Enjoy a concert in the park at 6 p.m. Sunday at Fairmount Park, along Boundary Avenue in Red Lion. This week’s event will feature the Spring Garden Band.

Family fun:
— Are you or your kids interested in taking dance classes this fall? Attend an open house 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at Greater York Dance, 3524 E Market St., Springettsbury Township for personalized placement meetings, tours and free classes.
Abby Lee Miller of the Lifetime show “Dance Moms” will visit York Saturday. The instructor will appear during Dance Night at Santander Stadium, 5 Brooks Robinson Way. The York Revolution will take on the Bridgeport Bluefish at 6:30 p.m. There will be pre-game fireworks at the ballpark. Sunday is “Stars Wars” night. [Tickets to the game cost $12]
— Head to the WWII Tribute Day and Big Band Dance 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Dill’s Tavern & Plantation, 227 N. Baltimore St., Dillsburg. It will feature re-enactors and living historians, encampments and speakers. Period dress is encouraged. A Big Band Dance featuring Will Fisher Orchestra runs 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. [Free; $15 for dance]
— Come dressed like royalty and enjoy family fun during Royal Peach Day 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Brown’s Orchard and Farm Market, 8892 Susquehanna Trail South, Springfield Township. This event features alpacas, face painting, a pig, story time with Queen Bee, games, crafts, peach pie eating contest and more.
— The Drive For Independence Upshift Summer Bash is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Leg Up Farm, 4880 N. Sherman St., East Manchester Township. The event will raise funds for Chris Sauerbaum who has Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy, a neurological disorder. [Car show registration is $10 to $15 and open to 100 vehicles]
— Terrified of bats? Attend the Bats Demystified program. Volunteer Linette Mansberger will bust bat myths 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Nixon Park, 5922 Nixon Road, Springfield Township.

More events:
— The York County Heritage Trust will host its Book Blast this weekend at the Agricultural and Industrial Museum, 217 W. Princess St., York. The event kicks off with a special Members-Only Night from 4 to 7 p.m. today. Friday is half-price day 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday is “buck-a-bag” day 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
— See a Hive & Honey Demonstration 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday at the Amish Markets at Hanover, 1649 Broadway, Hanover. Visitors can sample local honey and learn about all things related to beekeeping.
— The Brewery at Hershey celebrates its first anniversary Saturday. It starts 8 a.m. with a Trail to Ale 5k and Fun Walk. The patio will be open with food, beer and music. A chili cookoff starts at noon. [Free; cost to enter 5K and cookoff]
— Attend the Hot Summer Night Paddle, Taste & Dine 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Shank’s Mare Outfitters, 2092 Long Level Road, Lower Windsor Township. Sample craft beer from Liquid Hero Brewery. [$50 for members; $55 for nonmembers]
— See “Local Color” from York, Lancaster, Adams and Dauphin counties during the new exhibit at York Art Association, 220 S. Marshall St., Springettsbury Township. A reception is 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. It runs through Sept. 20. [Free]
